Why Blog?

You mean besides the fact that my current employer asked me to and it being a wonderful way to shamelessly self-promote? :) In reading a lot of the internet blogs out there, I found that many of them were excellent in shaping strategic thought about analytics, but very few got very tactical with the subject.

Many outline the general methodology of how to accomplish this method of tracking or that, but I find too many leave me asking the question, “that’s great, but now I’ve gotta figure out how to collect that data in the first place.”

With that in mind then, I thought my background as a web developer combined with my current in depth understanding of the overall strategy most organizations strive to achieve with web analytics, would provide the perfect combination of strategy and implementation.

I still plan to cover a lot of the high-level, strategic ideas, but I’ll try to drill down to implementation whenever possible.

I won’t lie to anyone, many of the posts that come up here will likely be as a result of things I’m trying to accomplish / working on at work and I figure it’s good for everyone to know about. But as my audience grows and I receive suggestions, I’d love to write a wide variety of posts to help out others.

Also, as this is a public blog I’ll try not to lean towards any analytics vendor too much but will often leverage Google Analytics when I need to drilldown to implementation or refer to examples.
